November Journal (Updated!)

November 30, 2006

I really didn't mean to wait this long to update the site.  I guess I just kept putting it off.  I figured I needed to make one last update before December, which is tomorrow!

Let's see...Thanksgiving was last week, and having a four-day weekend was fabulous!  We went to my mom's for lunch/dinner.  Catie, Chris, Meredith, and Aunt Becky were there.  Becky has lost some weight and can walk without any assistance now, which is awesome.  Catie was pretty much in town just for the day, which meant she couldn't be at the Daniels Reunion on Saturday (poopy!).  The food was great.  I made a broccoli cheese casserole, which is one of my favorite things.  I also made a pecan pie and a chocolate chess pie, which turned out nice.  I was very impressed with myself!  After eating, we watched "National Treasure" with Nicholas Cage.  I'd seen it before.  It's a good movie.

We didn't do much on Friday.  There's no way we were waking up early to go shopping like all the crazies.  We did go to the mall around 5 p.m., though.  It wasn't that crowded, and Adam was able to get his parents a gift.  Later on we watched "The Family Stone."  It was kind of a strange movie, but I liked it.  I'm glad we waited until after Thanksgiving to watch it, though, because it was set during Christmas.

Saturday we went to my dad's.  He gets together with this brothers and sister on that day every year.  I really look forward to seeing them.  All of his siblings made it.  Aunt Linda even stopped by towards the end.  Not all of the cousins made it, though.  We didn't get to see Tami and Warren or Rodney and Moe again this year.  Hopefully we'll get to see them sometime soon.  I posted some pics on my blog:  www.amlews2003.blogspot.com  Unfortunately I couldn't get all of the pics up.  For some reason blogger doesn't like it when you try to post a bunch of pics at the same time, so I'll have to wait a day or so and post the rest.  We had a really good time, and the weather was perfect.  It's usually cold and rainy, so we were really lucky.  Airplanes are a big thing in the Daniels family, so we spent time outside flying some.  Adam and I played freesbie.  There was way too much food, which is always the case.  Oh, Jasmine did the sweetest thing when she met Peyton (my cousin Caroline's daughter).  She slowly walked up to her, held out her arms, and gave Peyton a big bear hug.  It was so cute!  I wish I'd had my camera handy.

Sunday we had two new additions to the nursery.  Teagan just moved in with his family.  He has food allergies and can only eat rice cakes and fresh fruit.  Luckily, the Freemans bring fresh fruit every week.  He also has a little sister, Phoebe, who will be joining the nursery this Sunday.  Tristan just turned 18 months, and he wasn't too sure about nursery.  He started to cry several times, but I found if I paid attention to him, he would stop.  I think they'll both do just fine.  Oh, one of the twins got a bloody nose toward the end.  I don't know if he bumped his nose or if it just started bleeding.  He didn't freak out about it, though, which was good.  After church, we ate more Thanksgiving food at Adam's parents' house.  I brought my pies, and I still a few pieces of each left.  They should probably get eaten pretty soon.

Work has been very interesting this week.  I had to post several contracts late, which is unusual.  Also, on Tuesday, the corporation who owns our funeral home was acquired by another corporation.  There are a lot of changes happening.  The head management people are losing their jobs, and we're not allowed to talk to certain people we always talked to before.  It's pretty crazy!  This is all happening during the week of period end, too!  Tomorrow's Friday, and I have to have everything posted and sent to corporate no later than 6 p.m.  I don't think it'll be a problem, though.  I'm just so glad tomorrow's Friday!

We bought our Christmas tree today!  We were going to wait until Saturday, but Adam thought we could do it today.  As we were leaving, we noticed it was raining...not the best time to buy a tree.  We ate out at Phoenix, and luckily the rain stopped by the time we got there.  The tree we bought wasn't as cheap as what we've spent in the past.  We paid $30.  It's over 8 feet tall!  The kitty loves it, of course, and now it smells like Christmas in our home :)  I took a few pics of the kitty checking out the tree, but like I said earlier, I'll have to post them another day.

Have a happy December!

November 22, 2006

Wow, I'm really late on posting this week!

Last week was a pretty good week.  I don't really remember anything interesting happening.

Friday I left work early so Adam and I could drive to Charlotte.  We saw the Blue Man Group!  It was really great.  The opening act was Tracy Bonham, who wrote and sang "Mother, Mother."  I didn't realize who she was until she sang that song.  Anywho, Jason and Adam said the show was a lot different from when they saw it in NY.  They're a lot more well known now, and they have a big band and technological stuff.  Back in NY, it was just the three guys.  They enjoyed the show, but they were expecting something different.  There were a whole bunch of people there, too.  Unfortunately, Sabrina couldn't come with us.  She had surgery on her knee Wednesday and wasn't up to going anywhere.  Their friend Steve came instead.

Saturday we went with Jason to Christmas shop for Sabrina.  I ended up getting my mom's gift, too.  Surprisingly, I'm almost finished with my shopping.

Sunday was Stake Conference.  Adam fell asleep when he got home from work, so I went all by my lonesome.  Luckily I found my dad in the primary room and sat with him...along with noisy kids.  It was all good, though.  Later we went to my dad's.  Jasmine is getting so big!  She really is the sweetest little girl.  Check out my pics of her at www.amlewis2003.blogspot.com

Yesterday (Tuesday) Adam started having some pain in his upper chest.  He's been researching collapsed lungs lately and thought he might have a partial one.  Collapsed lungs tend to happen in tall, thin men between 20 and 30 years old.  He didn't go into work Tuesday night, which is a rarity...he doesn't usually take sick days.  His mom is a nurse at a doctor's office, and she was able to set up an appointment with him for Adam.  We don't have a primary care physician, but I guess we do now...which is a good thing.  Anyways, the doctor said he was pretty sure it was just a muscle strain of some sort, so Adam is just fine.

Can you believe tomorrow's Thanksgiving Day?  It seems like this year has gone by so quickly.  Soon we'll have a Christmas Tree sitting in our living room!  I made two pies today for Thanksgiving:  Pecan and Chocolate Chess.  They both set up...I was a little afraid they wouldn't.  The last time I made a pecan pie, it didn't set up.  It still tasted good, though.  Tomorrow I'll be making a broccoli and cheese casserole.  We'll be going to my mom's and hanging out.  Adam's family is going to Charlotte to spend Thanksgiving with Jason and Sabrina.  In turn, they'll be coming here for Christmas.

On Saturday we'll be spending the day at my dad's for his annual family reunion.  I think all of his brothers and sister will be there.  I always enjoy seeing them.  I wish we could see them more often.

Miranda called me today.  Michael and Emily are back in town for Thanksgiving (they moved to Durham a few months ago), and she told me the funniest thing Andy (their son) did.  He knocked something over and said "Can somebody help me?" only he said it with a country accent.  She just had to call me since I sometimes slip up and use a country accent, too.  I thought it was pretty cute.

Stay tuned for Thanksgiving festivities on my next post!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Howdy y'all!  Just kidding...I definitely don't talk like that.  I hope everyone has had a lovely week.  As I mentioned in my last entry, I was kind of sick.  I actually haven't been able to taste anything since Wednesday.  I am starting to taste some stuff now, but I still don't have my full sense of taste back.

Work wasn't too bad this week.  I went home early Tuesday, and got in late on Wednesday...not that late, though.  Everything that needed to be done got done.  A lot stuff had to be done by Thursday, because county offices and the bank were closed on Friday for Veteran's Day.  Must be nice to get every holiday imaginable off of work!

Friday, the Kitty was running around the house meowing like crazy.  I figured he just wanted outside.  He was causing a bunch of racket in the office, so I decided to check it out.  He crapped on the floor!  It wasn't a small crap, either; it was huge!  I guess I didn't realize how bad his litter pan was...apparently he was just trying to find a place to potty . That'll teach me to let the litter pan go for too long!

Saturday, Adam and I were able to spend time with Amy, Mark and the boys.  I'm not exactly sure when they got into town, but they had to leave Sunday morning.  The boys really loving wrestling with their Uncle Adam!  Gavin was so cute.  He kept "charging" Adam with his fists in the air.  The little booger's only 3!  We also watched "Secondhand Lions" with them.  It's one of the newer movies with Haley Joel Osment.  I really liked it.  Anywho, Amy and Mark are looking for land in Gibsonville to build a house on.  It'll be great to have them living close by.  Gibsonville is between Burlington and Greensboro.  Mark's family lives in Burlington, so it's a perfect location.  He's planning to start a home-building business.  It'll be really cool if he can build our house some day.  Of course, that'll be a long time coming.

Saturday I also got a phone call from Miranda.  She and Matt are expecting their first child!  They first started trying over a year ago, so I know they're really excited.  As you know, Matt got back from Iraq in mid-October.  I guess all they needed was a little "break."

Today was a good day at church.  We had the Primary Program, which is always fun to watch.  Some of the younger kids sing really loud, and it's so cute.  I know the primary leaders are glad it's over.  I imagine they get stressed out.  Nursery was also good.  Our lesson was about music.  The kids got to play some instruments, like triangles, drums, and bells.  They really loved it.  Next week we won't have nursery, because it's Stake Conference.

I'm really looking forward to this coming Friday.  Adam and I are driving down to Charlotte to see the Blue Man Group with Jason and Sabrina.  Sabrina has surgery on her knee that day, so she might not be able to go...which would be a total bummer.  She tore her ACL, and it'll be replaced by a cadaver part...gross!  Anywho, I need to make sure I get to and leave work early that day.  It should be a fun weekend.

Oh, I almost forgot.  I weighed myself this week, and I'm the same weight I was a month before my wedding!  I'm still working on losing some more weight, but I'm pretty happy with myself right now.

There are some cute pics of my nephews on the blog:  www.amlewis2003.blogspot.com  Have a good week!

November 7, 2006

Sorry I'm a little late updating the site.  It was just too late Sunday night.  Monday I did add pics to my blog, though:  www.amlewis2003.blogspot.com  There are two sections of new pics (one of the kitty and one of Jonathan's Eagle Court of Honor), so you'll have to scroll down farther to see all of them.

I'm sick right now, so I probably won't write much this time around.  I worked half a day today and decided I needed to come home.  I'm surprised I haven't gone through the entire box of tissues yet.  Anywho, here's what happened last week:

Monday night the Kitty got out!  He snuck out when Adam left for work, and I didn't realize he was gone until after I got off the treadmill.  I freaked out a little bit, but I remembered he came home the last time this happened.  I made sure to keep an ear out for any noise I heard outside.  I did manage to get some sleep, though.  He finally made himself known around 6:50 a.m.  I kept hearing noises and looking out the front window, but he wasn't there.  He ended up out on our closed-in side porch.  He certainly can jump high!  We'll be a lot more careful in the future...the little rascal.

Tuesday was Halloween.  Adam and I never get any trick-or-treaters.  We just stayed home and watched "Monster House."  I really liked it.  It was really interesting to see how they made the movie.

Wednesday was Nov. 1, which means rent was due.  I completely forgot!  I must've gotten caught up with Halloween.  As I was driving past the office on the way home, I remembered.  Luckily, the office was still open, although it closed immediately after I turned in the check.  I really need to set an alarm on my phone a few days before rent is due.  Next month our lease runs out and our new one kicks in.  That means we have to pay more...we'll no longer have the "deal" we had when we first moved in.  That lease will run out Dec. 31, 2007.  Maybe we'll change that to Jan. 31, 2008...a little farther from Christas and New Year's.

Friday was period end at work.  Well, technically period ends are always on Saturdays, but I have to get everything done by Friday.  I wasn't stressed out, though.  We didn't have too many calls last week, and I was able to get everything posted with plenty of time to spare.  We did get a suicide last week, though, which is always sad.  The man was 81 years old...I wonder what made him do such a thing at such an old age.  He was still married, too.

I was looking forward to Saturday all week.  My mom, Meredith, and I decided to go to the Holiday Market at the convention center.  I knew it would be crowded, but I didn't realize how crowded!  We could barely move.  I saw Kyndal there with her group when we got there.  I didn't see her anymore after that.  It was so crazy!  I did end up buying a few things, though.  My mom bought some yummy pecans, and Meredith bought yet another Christmas vest.  Overall, it was a bit disappointing.  The Craftman's Christmas Classic would've been a better choice of events.  Oh well!  After that adventure, Adam and I bought some Chinese food.  Jason and Sabrina came into town, and we played a game and watched "Nacho Libre."  It was pretty funny...well, stupid and funny.  It was made by the same people who did "Napoleon Dynamite."  It wasn't as good as that one, though.

Sunday was a good day.  Jonathan had his Eagle Court of Honor.  He received his Eagle at the same time as two other boys.  Jonathan is the only Lewis brother to receive the Eagle along with his dad.  I guess Jason and Adam just ran out of time.  Anyways, we're very proud of Jonathan!

I heard Amy and Mark will be coming to visit this coming weekend, so I'll be looking forward to that.  I haven't seen them since June.  Every weekend through Thanksgiving is filled with something to do, which is good.  I'll keep you posted!

Hopefully I'll feel much better tomorrow and spend the whole day at work.  I've gotten quite a few colds this year...good thing I have all of those sick days.

So much for not writing much!  Have a good week!
